ショートムービー"World Builder"

海外の作品ですが、言葉が無いのでどなたでも楽しめると思います。Second Life のようなバーチャル世界で、実在するかのようにリアルな街を再現する男の物語"World Builder"（via. CNET）：

街は素晴らしい出来映えなのに、なぜか悲しそうな顔をする男。その理由とは？もちろん最後まで観ていれば明らかになります。

若干ネタバレをしておくと、最後の場面、扉に表示されているのは"Neuro Holographic Recovery Unit"という文字。意味は「ホログラフを活用した神経回復ユニット」といったところでしょうか。つまり彼がヴァーチャル世界を構築していた目的は……というわけですね。

制作されたのは Bruce Branit さんという方で、以前も"405"というショートムービーを作られています。今回は実写部分の撮影に1日、ポストプロダクション（撮影後の加工・編集作業等）に2年かかったとのこと。やはりこれだけのものを個人で作ろうとしたら、年単位で時間がかかってしまうのですね。うーん、こういう作品には「投げ銭」的な形で簡単な貢献ができると嬉しいのですが。

It is a beautiful short movie. And it makes me cry not only because of it emotional depth but also because of it great visionary content.

Beside its great story it also describes exactly what people today already do in interactive virtual worlds like Second Life and OpenSimulator.

The process of creating (virtual)matter from pure thought and the fundamental concepts become crystal clear even to those that are new to virtual reality.

I hope I'll be granted to live long enough and will be allowed to experience such a process of creation in the hopefully not so far future by myself.

But always keep in mind: There is no Second Life. It is all part of your only and precious real life and only you decide what to make from your time. Virtual worlds are just a new form to express things and no place to hide in from real life. So be an artist within VR, make it your tool and don't become its slave.
